It’s already 2021, and the deadline to file your taxes will be here before you know it!

West Baton Rouge Library offers many resources to help ease the headaches of tax season, including free online tax filing, tax forms, helpful links, and of course, books. Keep reading below to find out which of our resources can help you.

Free Tax Preparation

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, the Library is unable to offer our usual free tax preparation help. We hope to resume this service next year. In the meantime, please use the other resources on this page.

West Baton Rouge Parish, The West Baton Rouge Library, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance through the Internal Revenue Service will offer free tax help to individuals with simple returns. Appointments are available at the West Baton Rouge Library every Saturday from February 2 through April 13 at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.

Space is limited so registration is required. To register, or for questions, contact Sarah Colombo at (225) 342-7920 ext. 221 or scolombo@wbrplibrary.us.

Free Online Filing through MyFreeTaxes.com

Do you like to file your own taxes? Now you can file both your federal and state taxes with free online software! The IRS and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) bring you MyFreeTaxes, an online tax filing service for individuals or families with a low or moderate income in 2020. Visit www.myfreetaxes.com to prepare your taxes online on your own.

MyFreeTaxes.com is a free site that you can use to file state and federal taxes. If you get stuck, volunteers are available by phone to assist you. This service is sponsored by United Way, the National Disability Institute, Goodwill, and Walmart with tax filing software provided by H&R Block. MyFreeTaxes Partnership’s online and in-person tax preparation and filing services have helped millions of families claim nearly $8 billion in tax credits and refunds since 2009.

Downloadable Tax Forms

Here, you can find IRS.gov links to downloadable tax forms in PDF format. Most general forms can be found here. If you’re having trouble finding a specific form, please contact the library for assistance.

For tax year 2020, forms 1040a and 1040ez will not be used. Instead, use the 1040 form.

Tax Forms at the Library

The IRS will be providing West Baton Rouge Library with copies of Form 1040, Form 1040A, and Form 1040EZ for the 2020 filing year. While instruction packets are not being provided, they can be viewed and downloaded online.

Books on Taxes

West Baton Rouge Library has books with information on tax filing. Our online catalog is available twenty-four hours a day!

Louisiana Tax Information

The State of Louisiana no longer provides the library with state income tax forms or instruction booklets. Information about Louisiana income tax filings, including downloadable tax forms, can be found at the Louisiana Department of Revenue website.
